Wellness Retreat at the Sunflower Inn Bed & Breakfast, Christina Lake

Sunflower Inn Bed & Breakfast at Christina Lake

The Sunflower Inn Bed & Breakfast at Christina Lake is such a special place, a true hidden gem. Owner Kathleen Smythe greeted me from the front porch of her log home situated right on the banks of Christina Lake. She is so welcoming that I immediately felt right at home. This was such a nice relaxing stay after two jam packed days.

Christina Lake

Christina Lake is considered the jewel of the Kootenay Boundary and is the perfect location to start the next portion of our trip. There are many recreational opportunities in the area from water activities on Christina Lake to hiking and exploring the area. There are not any kitschy tourist joints just a quiet lake town with small, local businesses and a few restaurants.

Covered Lower Deck overlooking Christina Lake

The inn has three rooms, and all have lake views, private baths, queen sized beds and come with a delicious, nutritious breakfast. Guests have use of the covered deck with comfy furniture, a guest fridge, and a mini outdoor kitchen with everything you need to heat up a meal. Kathleen has a well-stocked selection of books on the local history, nature, and things to do.

Full moon rising over Christina Lake

I choose to just relax during my stay. The full moon rising over the lake was spectacular. If you want to be more active there are hiking trails within walking distance of the inn. All guests have use of a private dock, and a campfire pit on the beach. Smythe also offers a canoe, stand up paddle board and kayaks for a rental fee.

Morning view of Christina Lake from my room

I stayed in the Sage Green room and is was just lovely. It was a large room that has a queen bed and a sitting area the has a pull-out sofa bed so that the room can accommodate four people. Everything was super clean, and the bed was amazingly comfortable. This room has lakeside views and access to the deck from the room.

Alpine’s Holistic Healing

I did not have the opportunity to use Kathleen’s spa services but if you have time, they are worth it. She runs Alpine’s Holistic Healing at the inn offering a variety of healing touch, craniosacral therapy, and massages. Kathleen is a certified Healing Touch practitioner with years of experience in a variety of both holistic and traditional methods. She offers: Craniosacral Therapy, Healing Touch, Somatoemotional Release, Heart Centered Therapy, Energy Medicine, Visceral Therapy, Lymph Drainage Therapy, and Hot Stone Massage Therapy.

The next morning, I enjoyed a delicious home cooked breakfast out on the upper deck, an option when the weather is nice. Kathleen is a great cook and puts lots of TLC into her meals. Sipping morning coffee overlooking the early morning calm on the lake, I didn’t want to leave.

Press Trip – Thank you to the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association and The Sunflower Inn Bed and Breakfast for hosting me.
